The Trick to Buying Quality Furniture

It seems that in today’s world the general public is more educated than ever before about furniture, color and styles. I credit the internet and TV shows on design for this new level of awareness. However I believe that in general people are just knowledgeable enough to be dangerous. There is no substitute for experience which is why the world will always need interior designers. Whether you are working with a designer or attempting to go it alone the more you know the easier the process will be.

The trick to buying quality pieces of furniture is often what you can’t see. When you look at upholstered furniture you don’t always know what is inside. I trust companies who show off how well they make their products with detailed illustrations. The real difference becomes clear when you have a comparison like these dining room chairs.

With case goods, otherwise known as wood pieces like chests, desks, tables etc., you can investigate the piece more if you know what you are looking for. By now everyone knows dove tailed drawers are better not non dove tail drawers; but not all dove tails are created equal. I recommend you remove a draw flip it over and see if it has any corner blocks. Feel the inside of draw to see if its smooth, is the wood thick enough, and take note of what type of glides it has. These are what tell you how well a piece is made. It’s also good to know that anytime a piece has drawers the cost goes up because of the labor and materials required in making a draw.

Quality furniture pieces are more comfortable, last forever and save you money in the long run.
